Fire truck.
I did this painting yesterday for some practice. I've always had a more difficult time drawing anything that wasn't people, and even more so, anything that has straight lines. Hopefully you can expect to see more little doodles like this (this is about the size of my iphone) in the future. Maybe I'll have so many I'll have to sell them just so I can walk around! Speaking of which, you can get a print of this (or a card, or a t-shirt, or an iphone case) at my Society 6 shop.

Expletive Poster Show.

Buy a print of this sucker at the up and coming Expletive Typography Exhibition and Poster Show : Ugly words to admire at the Light Grey Art Labs in Minneapolis! Hopefully I'm not posting this too early... Anyway, the show opens on Sept 14, 7-10 pm. Sounds like it'll be a fun party, if you go, wear that shirt hiding in the back of your closet because it has swears on it. I think they'll like, give you something. If you do. Anyway, it was really fun trying to decide what things to say, thanks to Vicki Nerweinis for helping me out.

COMIX CLASS - summer 2012
THE SECRET IS OUT!
The folks over at Little Island (aka, Andrew) and I have been cooking up something pretty awesome the last few weeks! I'm going to be running some comic related workshops starting July 5 out of a back-ish room at the Little Island comic book store! If you're a local kid, from 10-12, you should not be reading this blog because it is dirty and vile. But, since you're here, I'll give you a summary of how this thing is going down:
Dazzle your friends with your Comics Skills, AND get 2 hours away from your folks! WIN WIN.
Session 1 (July 5th): INTRO TO GRAPHIC STORYTELLING Session 2 (July 12th): CHARACTER DESIGN 101 Session 3 (July 19th): DRAW WHAT YOU SEE: an observational sketchbook seminar Session 4 (July 26th): ANATOMY OF A MINI-COMIC
Take a class here or there, or collect ‘em all and leave with your very own mini-comic/zine and all the skills to make more!
From 1-3pm every Thursday of July. $20 per kid per session. Pre-pay for all four classes and get a $20 Little Island/Beguiling Gift Certificate – it’s like getting a class for free! Kids ages 10 to 12 are welcome (some exceptions may be made: please inquire).
Sign up today! Show up at, call or email Little Island Comics to register or for more info.
There's also this B&W version, if you prefer:
And a screen tone version as well, but since those look like radioactive poop when viewed on a computer screen, I'm keeping that one an "in person" secret. Special.
Anyway, wish me luck. I hope the little gremlins don't tear me apart!

Etsy Minis!
I got bored today, and decided to play with a bit of hand lettering, as I am wont to do. But then I didn't know what to write, so I looked to my dear friend, Mr. Adams, who was ever so eloquent. I threw these little dudes up in my Etsy shop, and I'm thinking about making more, or maybe little drawings. Anyway, they're near about the size of a business card.

Old Riddles
First off, I must say I was overwhelmed by the positive response I received for my unused Businessweek cover! Thank you to everyone who commented, or sent me a message, or tweeted about it, etc.
I've been working non-stop lately, and I must also apologize to my friends and relatives for how cloistered I've been lately. For months really. I'm considering cutting hours at my part-time job to ease my stress levels a bit. But, of course, that could possibly aggravate the financial stress I already deal with. SIGH. Not to mention, if I lower my hours, I'll lose my health insurance. It's not a lot, but it's nothing to sneeze at. Difficult decisions lie ahead for me.
NEWS:
Conundrum has sent me copies of my book! Although I'm still angry at it, it does feel very good to hold it in my hands.

Currently I'm back to work on my annual gig for U of T press.

I haven't been very good at posting, but if you follow me on instagram (username: britterson) I do post tidbits there at least every couple days.
I'll be at TCAF May 5-6th, hocking my book, two minis (The Pretty Ridiculous Adventures of A.Zimerman/Buttsex), and maybe a few other goodies, if I manage to find time to make them. At the very least I usually bring cupcakes or cookies to bribe potential customers with.
